Mahala Goodman

(1818 - )

In 1840, in Hickman Co, TN, where Alexander Goodman was living, and found next to Asa D. Goodman was:
Lewis Roberds (sic), age 20-30. He had 2 girls, less than age 5, and probable spouse was also 20-30. Mahala would have been about 22. The two girls could have been Christia and Nancy - see the 1850 census.
Following Asa D. Goodman on this census page was Hugh DePriest; looked like the three brothers-in-law were living next to each other.

Further down the page is John "Roberds", age 50-60. Children would appear to be a male age 5-10, one age 10-15, one age 15-20, and a female age 5-10. There was also a female age 50-60.

1850 Census. Perry Co TN, Hh 64
Mahala Roberts, age 32, b. TN. Nancy A. 10, Lucinda 8, and Thos. G. age 2.
Living next door with Nancy Goodman, widow of Alexander, was Christia Roberts, age 11, female. Was she another daughter of Mahala's?

Note: I found the following definition of a "tippling house" from Bouvier's Law Dictionary, 1856
A place where spirituous liquors are sold and drunk in violation of law. Sometimes the mere selling is considered as evidence of keeping a tippling house.

Mahala sold her share of her father's estate.
