Elizabeth Anderson to Benjamin Fox, bride is over age 21, father Bartlett Anderson, 20 Aug 1799, Botetourt Co, Virginia. Surety, John Anderson.

There are those who believe the daughter of Bartlett Anderson, Elizabeth, married an Owen Dabney because a granddaughter Elizabeth Dabney is named in the will of Griffith Dickerson. However, this isn't likely - there is no known marriage record for Owen Dabney and his wife Elizabeth and they sold land, a deed dated 10 Nov 1753, assuring they were married before that date. The will of Griffith Dickerson was written some 32 years later, December of 1785 - when the wife of Owen Dabney would have been at the very least middle-aged with grown children that would be great-grandchildren of Griffith Dickerson. There is no way to tell from the will of Griffith Dickerson if the grandchild named Elizabeth was nee Dabney or had married a Dabney. Since the marriage record of Elizabeth to Benjamin Fox, names her father there seems to be no doubt that the relationship to Owen Dabney belongs to a very different Elizabeth.


As entering land in her own name, Elizabeth was surely widowed.

Dear Pat: My Anderson line begins with Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Bartlett Anderson and Frances Dickerson/Dickenson. Elizabeth was born ca 1776 in Botetourt Co., VA, and died after 1846 in Jackson Co., TN. She married Benjamin Fox 20 August 1799 in Botetourt Co., VA. Her parents were married 10 April 1770 in Louisa Co., VA. These facts are documented. I believe her father is the Bartlett Anderson who died 18 Oct 1787, but I really don't know which Bartlett Anderson he was. Her mother was the daughter of Griffith Dickerson, but which one? Do you have anything that would signify which Bartlett Anderson and which Griffith Dickerson go with this line? Thanks very much. Lora Tindall

The marriage Bond of Bartlett Anderson and Frances Dickinson, states that her father was Griffith Dickson. Witnesses: John Watson, Hickason Cosby Dickson, Robert Dickason, John Hawkins, Jr.

There is a memorial of Elizabeth on FindAGrave, but no photo. I suspect the dates are guesstimates - born 1777, died 1846. Said to be buried Fox Cemetery, Jackson Co, TN

Fox Cemetery is located 1 mile off of Hwy 56 on Flynn's Creek Rd in Jackson County Tennessee. Turn left onto Dyer and Flatt Rd and the cemetery is 1 mile on the left. This cemetery is well marked and well kept.
