Individual Details
Mary Ann Cox
(1756 - 26 Oct 1840)
By 1780, William and Mary Ann were married.
The patent issued jointly to James And Mary Ann Cox in 1768 is a bit unusual - it's quite likely this was issued to them as heirs since they appear to have been brother and sister. Any other relationship seems impossible, and if there had been other siblings one would think they would have shared in the ownership of this patent.

Patent for 275 acres grated to James Cox and Mary Anna Cox on 20 Jul 1768. PB 37, p.269. Location given as above, except it was listed as being in Halifax Co in 1768. Likely brother and sister. Perhaps their father had died after getting the warrant for this patent although usually that is mentioned in the patent itself.

21 Nov 1786. William Short & John Parks, Esqr, JP's of Pittsylvania Co examined Maryann, wife of William and she relinquished dower.
This is land from the division with James Cox - they appear to be selling it back to him, probably in preparation for leaving Virginia.
After William and Mary Ann McBee moved to Tennessee, they lived adjoining one William Cox. No relationship has been established.
