By the time of his death in 1757, Peter Jefferson owned more than 1500 acres along the Rivanna River adjacent to his original 200 acres [Shadwell] bought from William Randolph in 1734. The property included the mountain, Thomas Jefferson would name Monticello. Peter owned other lands in the Piedmont - about a total of 7200 acres.
