He commanded a vessel sailing between Virginia and England. Isham married, Bishopsgate Church, Shadwell Paarish, London, to Jane Rogers on 25 Jul 1717. Jane was born in London.
When Jane was about four the family lived in nearby Whitechapel Parish. They moved the next year to Williamsburg, Virginia. By 1729, the family was living at Turkey Island, Henrico Co, her grandparents' home. Her younger sister Dorothea was the first of Jane's siblings to be born at Dungeness, Goochland Co [which had been formed out of Henrico Co in 1728].
When she married Peter Jefferson he named his estate, Shadwell in honor of her birthplace. The family moved to her cousin's house Tuckahoe from 1746 to 1753, but Shadwell was enlarged and improved and they moved back in 1753. She was widowed in 1757. Shadwell burned on 1 Feb 1770 and Jane continued to live in a smaller house on the property.
