Also found listed as a son of Richard's brother John, but I believe it should be this Richard Carter.
Southside Virginia Genealogies states that a Richard Carter, married Susanna Bigger, Prince Edward Co, 19 Dec 1772. Susanna, as administratrix, delivered the inventory of his estate 18 Feb 1796. She married 2nd David Powell on 17 Nov 1796 and he became guardian to her three youngest Carter children, Richard, Samuel, & Nancy. A court suit, Nov 1796, identified Richard's heirs as John, of age, and minors Thomas, Lemuel, William, Mary, Richard, Samuel, and Nancy.
