(1772 - 1861)



An Abraham Enyart, born in Somerset NJ is believed to be Elizabeth's father. She was probably born in Rowan Co NC. Her brothers David & Silas as well as most of her sisters and their husbands all lived in Madison Co KY and moved on to Howard Co MO together. They were the earliest settlers in Prairie Twp, Howard Co.

The first persons to locate in Prairie township were SILAS ENYART, WILLIAM HARVEY, MURPHY BESS and JOHN TITUS. These came in the year 1817.

I, Elizabeth Wright of the County of Howard, and State of Missouri do make and publish this my last will and testament.
1st It is my desire that, after the payment of my funeral expenese and all my just debts, that all the slaves that I have at my death Viz. Annie ?D, Susan, Miles, Isaac, Sllen, Tony shall be given to Benjamin Brown and William H Rice the son in law to my daughter Mrs. Katy Welden in trust for my Son Gideon Wright during his life, and to be use by the said trustees for the special use and benefit of the said Gideon Wright, and at his death I give and bequeath the said slaves at one enumeration to the said Benjamin Brown and William H. Rice to be equally divided by them at the death of the said Gideon Wright and to their heirs and assigns forever.
And lastly as to all the rest or residue of my personal property whatsoever, after the payment of my debts (as heretofore specified), I give and bequeath to the said Benjamin Brown and William H. Rice in trust for my beloved son Gideon Wright aforesaid for the term of the said Gideon's life and after his death then to the said Benjamin Brown and William H. Rice and their heirs and assigns forever in equal proportions as heretofore specified.
And I do hereby appoint as my executors to this my last will and testament the Said Benjamin Brown & William H. Rice, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand this the 10th day of December in the year of our Lord 1859.
Signed and declared by the within named Elizabeth Wright to be her last will and testament in the presence of us, who at her request and in her presence here subscribe our names as witnesses thereto.

P.S. That clause of the will which Says or reads "Benjamin Brown and William H. Rice, the sons in law to my daughter Mrs. Walkin" should read Benjamin Brown the son in law to my daughter Mrs. Welden and William H. Rice who married my grand Daughter Elizabeth Drinkard.

On this 11th day of Jun 1861, personally appeared before the undersigned Clerk of the County Court within and for this County aforesaid, James F. Finks and Stephen T. Garner who being duly sworn State that Elizabeth Wright signed Published and declared the foregoing instrument of
writing as and for her last will and testament in their presence and also the postscript addition thereto that the name of the testatrix was written by Said Finks and she made her mark, that they subscribed their names as witnesses at her request, in her presence and in the presence of
each other, and the said Elizabeth Wright was of lawful age and they believe of sound mind at the time of publihsing said will, so help we God.

On the previous page, p. 171, there is a bond for Benjamin C. Brown to be appointed administrator of the estate of Durlin Wright, deceased. Securities James W. A. Patterson and Samuel Brown. Filed 11 Jun 1861. Durlin is said to have had property at the time of his death.

p.245 S. C. Major has taken over the administration of the estate of Elizabeth Wright, dec'd, as of 1 July 1861. Persons having claims should present them for payment within one year. Isaac A. Houck, proprietor of the Howard County Banner, published in Fayette, Howard County, swore that he had published this notice Aug 8th, 15th, and 22nd, 1861. Filed 14 Oct 1862.
