Micajah Pippin

(Abt 1764 - Jan 1820)

Micajah was probably the first child born in North Carolina. He married Ann, surname unknown, prior to 1800, and probably in South Carolina.

Micajah's family was enumerated in the 1800 census in Darlington Co SC. In 1810 & 1820 they were in Marion Co SC. The only children known were Sarah & Benjamin; the censuses indicate no others.

Micajah received a grant of 500 acres on 24 Nov 1795, from the State of South Carolina. It was in the district of George Town on the great Sister Bay, waters of the Little Pee Dee River. He bought an additional 292 acres on 14 Feb 1809 from Abrahm Jones.

Micajah wrote his will 20 Jan 1820, Marion District, SC. He named his wife Ann and daughter Sarah as heirs. There was no mention of son Benjamin. Wm. H. Cannon & Hugh E. Cannon were to be executors.

22 Jan 1820, two days after writing his will, Micajah executed a power of attorney, appointing Hugh E. Cannon to manage his property and take care of his business affairs in his absence.
According to a suit brought by his son Benjamin on 12 Jan 1842, Micajah left the state and was not seen or heard from again. In th interim his wife Ann had died in 1839 and his daughter Sarah had married Jesse Moody and had left the state not to be heard from again [more than 10 years]. Sarah & Jesse had no children when they left the state. Hugh E. Cannon had died and his son William M. Cannon had Micajah's will proven 27 Sep 1841 and took the estate as his own. The Equity Court reversed this action and granted Benjamin Pippin settlement.

Micajah's son Benjamin married (1) Mary Ann Driggers and (2) Catherine Ann "Kitty", surname unknown. Benjamin was in Marlboro Co SC in 1850, age 40 years. In 1860 they were in Barbour Co AL and Henry Co Al in 1870.
