Benjamin Pippin

(1760 - Bef 9 Sep 1811)

There are two Benjamin Pippins, Sr. and Jr. on the Martin Co NC tax rolls of 1777 and 1779.

Major John Harrison's Corps, SC Rangers, was organized at New Camden, SC on 24 Oct 1780. Benjamin Pippin enlisted 12 Nov 1780 and made muster until 24 Jun 1781 when he was shown as sick in the hospital. The Rangers were a loyalist unit, which supported the English Crown during the Revolution.

He could have been in the household of his father in the 1790 Census for Cheraws District, SC, based on the numbers of males & females over 16 listed.

Benjamin's wife was a Mary "Polly", surname unknown. She married (2) to Gilbert Hankins in Roane Co TN on 9 Sep 1811. Mary was then head of household on the 1830 Roane Co Census with her age as 50-60 years.

Three sons have been identified for Benjamin & Mary. They are Peter, John & Francis. They are listed in a lengthy compilation of the indebtednesses to the estate of John Eblin, merchant, in the Jan Court 1830, Roane Co TN.
