John married Esther Brown on 2 Feb 1781 in Botetourt Co VA [Book 2, p.15]. Esther was the daughter of Thomas Brown and Mary Terry - perhaps a cousin to John? They moved to Tennessee [Anderson Co by 1803]; then Wayne Co KY and Perry Co IN. John died 7 Dec 1842 and is buried in Perry Co IN. The last record of Esther Terry is on a deed in 1847.

John Terry was living in Anderson County, Tennessee, in 1803, and this fact is recorded in Botetourt County, Virginia Court records. There was a John Terry in Hawkins County, Tennessee
Court records in 1789, 1793, 1800, and 1801. There was a John Terry in Grainger County, Tennessee, in 1799, 1800, 1801, and 1802. Hawkins and Grainger Counties are in Eastern Tennessee and would be on the way from Virginia to Anderson County, Tennessee.


John and Esther had at least 14 children. Josiah, born about 1780 in Virginia, lived in Scott Co TN. His son Joseph of Madison Co KY was mentioned in an old family letter as a second cousin of Elisha H. Harrison.
