Josiah Terry

(Abt 1781 - 1868)

Online trees give a birth of 1780 in various locations - he was not likely that old since his parents married in 1781. There were multiple men of this name - a Josiah Terry was on a tax list in Botetourt Co VA in 1785 - likely an uncle. A Josiah Terry applied for Bounty Land on the service of Julius Terry - obviously also a very different Josiah.

The enumerator placed what appears to be a year after the place of birth of the head of household. It certainly wasn't the year born - I suspect it may have been the year they came to Tennessee, or perhaps to Campbell Co. Very unusual marking. On the last page, he also placed the following: 429 Farmers.

1860 Census. Scott Co, TN, Hh 321

A Memorial gravestone placed many years after the fact is in Penlon Cemetery, Sunnybrook, Wayne Co, KY. Family tradition is that he died there visiting his daughter Malinda. No confirmation.
