Willis enlisted in Company K, 28th TN Infantry Regt, Confederate on 7 Sep 1861 at Camp Zollicoffer TN for two years or the duration of the war.

Serving in the 28th Regt were Willis Pippin, Willis B. Pippin, Willis W. Pippin & W. W. Pippin.
Willis Barnes was a son of James William, gson of Willis, g gson of Joseph & Holley Pippin.. Willis W. was Willis Woodfork Pippin, a son of Willis & uncle of Willis Barnes Pippin. W. W. was Wade W. Pippin, son of Joseph Pippin & 2nd wife Margaret Dodson.

This family was on the 1860 census in Jackson Co TN and Butler Co KY in 1870. In 1880, they were in Warren Co KY. Both Willis & Jane died in Warren Co and are buried in the Thompson Graveyard, New Bethel, Warren Co KY. They had four children.
