Anne was the daughter of Sir Francis Knollys who married Catherine Carey. Catherine was the daughter of William Cary and his wife Mary Boleyn who was a sister of Queen Anne Boleyn, 2nd wife of King Henry VIII. Mary Boleyn was the king's mistress prior to his relationship with Anne. She is believed to have had at least one child, Henry, by the King, and rumors are that Catherine was also the king's bastard - Mary was married to William Carey at the time.
