Mustered out on 15 Aug 1865 at Houston, TX.
James Garner, was born and reared in Cass County, Indiana. He married Barbara Allen Sharp, sister to Julia Ann Shapr, who married his brother Matthias.. James who was a pioneer settler in Iowa, fought in the Civil War, having enlisted in an Iowa regiment, with which he saw much active service. He later became an early settler in South Dakota. Ultimately he moved to California and lived in both Lemoore and Hanford, passing away in the latter.
