David married Mary Weaver of England and returned to England; he was in the merchant service. This is generally accepted by Meriwether researchers but has some problems in that the marriage to Mary Weaver took place, 20 Jun 1743 in Yazor Parish Chruch, Hereford Co, England. At the time David was age 26 and of St. James Parish in Bristol. This age is ten years off a birth year of 1726 as from an old Bible transcript. The original Bible has not been found and all transcripts are probably at least second generation copies, thereby raising some doubt as to the accuracy.

Old Capt. Nicholas Meriwether, made bequests to most of his known living grandchildren in his will - other sons of David and Ann were named or had previously recieved gifts, but no mention is made of this David. Father David had made a will that on 24 Jan 1744/5 was presented in court by Thomas Meriwether & Nicholas Meriwether, Gent., Exors. therein named. The original will has never been found and was likely destroyed during the Civil War.

David & Mary Meriwether often traveled back and forth between England and the colonies, even signing the will of Robert Lewis, David's uncle. David owned at least four tracts of land in Albemarle Co, two of which had been originally part of his grandfather's tract. Recent DNA tests reveals a perfect match between descendants of this David and Capt Nicholas Meriwether, but of course do not reveal the exact relationship.

Died of a fever at sea, 23 Aug 1772, on board the ship York seven days out of Virginia bound for Bristol. His intestate estate was probated 23 Dec 1772 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, "David Meriwether Master of the Merchant Ship the York on the High Seas a Widower, deceased". Administration granted to Jenny Meriwether, Spinster, natural and lawful daughter of the deceased.
