(Abt 1697 - 1766)
SOME ANCIENT LANDOWNERS IN SAINT MARTIN'S PARISH, HANOVER COUNTY, VIRGINIA, by Norine Campbell Gregory, 2001; footnote, p.348: "On the N. side of the South Anna River in present St. Martin's Parish, Capt David Crawford acquired prior to Feb. 1719, a tract of land cut out of the 5764 acres patent to Thos. Scott & John Drummond, granted to them 29 Oct 1694. ...David Crawford was named in a procession here in 1719" [Vestry Book of St. Paul's prior to establishment of St. Martin's]
David and Ann are said to have lived for many years on the South Anna River, near Beech Creek Ford. About 1752 they moved to Albemarle which became Amherst Co VA where he bought 411 acres from Robert Barnett. [David & Ann's oldest child, Susannah, married Nathaniel Barnett]. Later in the will of David Crawford II, he mentions his plantation adjoins that of his granddaughter Susanna Barnett.
David III made his will on 21 Jun 1766, which was proved 4 Aug 1766. His wife and his mother, as well as his children survived him. Ann is believed to have died by 1803, when Nelson Anderson & Nathan Crawford signed a bond as executors of the estate of Ann Crawford; she is said to have been 95 years old.
David and Ann had 13 children, although several of the younger ones died soon after their father.
