Rosana Sloan

(5 Nov 1777 - 16 Jan 1831)

Security: John Sloan; Witness Jno Rogers. NC Marriage Bonds.

Jesse & Rosana buried Fitzgerald/Haden Cemetery, Davidson Co NC along with several of their children/grandchildren.

John Sloan was apparently the father of Rosanna. He made a generous gift of three tracts of land to Jesse Haden on the same day as Jesse Haden's father made a gift of land - this was about two years after their marriage. John Sloan's will is recorded in Will Book D, p.78 without a date, or date of probate. I have seen only a brief abstract. Wife Agnes, was to have the homeplace. He had two daughters, Jean or Jane and Rosanna and owed a debt to Nathaniel Gadbury. [I suspect the daughters were to have the land after the death of their mother.] Executors were to be Isaac Wiseman and his wife. There is a bond, 19 Nov 1821, when Henry Sloan was appointed administrator of the estate of John Sloan. Perhaps, not the same man because Jane & Rosanna disposed of their property in 1809.

Jacob Fisher had been married to Rosannah's sister Jane; Jane apparently had died.

Rowan Co Will Book D, p.79
John Sloan Will. no date on will; no date of probate.
Wife Agness to have the homeplace. Daus: Jean [interchangeable with Jane], Rosannah. Debt owed by Nathaniel Gadbury. Extrs: wife & Isaac Wiseman. No witnesses, no signature.
I didn't look up an estate file for Sloan - would have been a different film from the “H's”
But this note said that on 19 Nov 1821, Henry Sloan was appointed administrator of the estate of John Sloan.
This same webpage listed numbers of land transactions for John Sloan to include grants for the tracts sold to Jesse & Rosanna. It also listed a number of other children. There were obviously other Sloans living in Rowan Co - I saw no reason for all of the other children being placed in the family - there were no likely deeds to possible additional sons or sons-in-law, etc. John's father was a Henry, but I suspect that he also had a brother Henry. The extra children may have been misplaced. I think it very unusual that a man would give daughters land and not his sons.
There was a deed, 7 Nov 1768 ….Henry Sloan to son John, personalty in exchange for three rooms in the west end of John Sloan's house for life. Proved Feb. Court 1771. DB 7, p.283
