John Morton

(Abt 1729 - 1796)



John married Mary Anderson about 1750. Said to have been a Capt in the Revolution; two of his sons also said to have served.
He, in fact, raised a company of soldiers in Prince Edward County, for the 4th regiment of the Continental Army. Rosters exist for the company. He served for seven years. He also served as deputy Commissioner under quarter Master Gen. John Pierce of the Continental Army.

John's brother Thomas served in his Company when it was first organized. They had both served in the French & Indian Wars in 1758.
