Benjamin Echols

(1751 - Jan 1828)

Benjamin witnessed a deed for his brother Moses in Halifax Co, as early as 1765, so he had to be at least age 14.
(Bk 5, p.378) 11 May 1765 - William Owen to Moses Echols for £80 - 127 A. on both sides Little Creek belonging to Burches Creek adj. Talmon Harbour’s corner -- Mackbee’s old line.
Wit: G. Watkins, Wm Roberts, Samuel Davis, Benjamin Echols, Harmon Miller.

Benjamin Echols, a single tithable in Halifax County in 1771, married Sabra Hendrick, a daughter of Benjamin Hendrick whom he named in his 1777-will in Amelia County. Echols was granted 400 acres on the branches of Sandy Creek in Pittsylvania County in 1780. Benjamin and Sabra had eight children, and he was residing in Franklin County, Georgia, when he gave a power of attorney in Halifax County 4 June 1791. He, “has always been insolvent.”

Pittsylvania Land Tax Lists, 1782. Benja Echols transferred 250 acres to Joseph Flippin. This doesn't quite agree with the deed of 17 Aug 1782 but does agree with the 250 sold to Flippin and another 100 to Soloman Seal.
