John Echols

John Echols married Lucy Anna Moore, a daughter of William Moore who made bequests to “son-in-law John Echols” in his 1786-will in Halifax County. They married 6 Sept 1760 in Lunenburg Co, VA.
His father deeded 319 acres on Terrible Creek to John 16 August 1770, 220 acres of which he sold to George Watkins 16 February 1775.
John Echols was head of a household of 11 whites and eight blacks in Halifax County in 1782. Ten whites were in his family in 1785.
John provided corn and fodder to the Army during the Revolution, for which he was later reimbursed.
John and Lucy Anna witnessed a deed in Halifax County in 1790, and when John sold 200 acres on Terrible Creek to John Nelson 14 March 1791, Lucy Anna relinquished her dower right. He was a qualified voter in Halifax County in 1808, and died after 1816.

Springer’s daughter and lives in Carroll County & has represented that county in the Legislature of Georgia. David Rogers lives in Stewart County & has Represented that County in the State Legislature.”
4› Caty Echols [838.5.2.6] “never married, died young.”
4› Patsy Echols [838.5.2.7] married William Ellis. “They live in Pike County Near Griffin and they have Raised Several Sons and Daughters.”
4› Lydia Echols [838.5.2.8] married Skelton Sandifer and “moved to Alabama. I know no more of them.”
4› Lucy Echols [838.5.2.9] married Nathan Williams “and raised their family in Jasper County.”
