Mariah Avery
(13 Aug 1813 - 8 Sep 1844)
I have found little additional information about a Maria Avery. It is possible she died as a child or young woman, as Solomon Wixom, married to her sister Sarah, had himself sealed to a Maria Avery in 1872, along with eight other women, many of whom appear to be kin to Solomon or one of his wives. It was the custom among the early church members to assure that deceased, unmarried women were provided a husband.
However, she is most likely the Mariah Avery that was first married to Goveneur Butterfield in Schuyler Co, in 1836. He would marry her niece Sarah Avery, daughter of William & Margaret Pickel, in 1845. In the Journal of Solomon Wixom, he recorded the birth and death dates of Maria.
