Married Mary Emeline Baily [a sister to Clarissa who married Marion West?]. Mary was born 22 May 1838 and died 19 Jul 1913 but there is no marker in Gill Cemetery where she is buried. The following children of Merton & Mary are also believed to be buried in unmarked graves in this Cemetery: Martha Louise West, b. 8 Aug 1862, d. 1864; John Francis West, b. 20 Sep 1865, d. 1880; Mary Francis West, b. 27 Feb 1870, d. 1871; and Marion Tilghman West, b. 19 Jan 1873, d. 1874.

Mirton (sic) T. West of Van Buren, AR. Born 10 May 8136 at Fayetteville, Washington Co, AR. Father: John West, born in Kentucky, lived at Washington Co, AR. John West was in the war of 1812. Mother was Lavinia Howard who lived at Kentucky and Indiana.
Occupation was farming.
Justice of the Peace of Van Buren for twenty years.
Enlisted in Crawford Co, AR in 1861 and served until the close of the war. Co. D, Carrol Regiment and Co. G, 2nd Arkansas. Belongs to Democratic Party
Member of the Christian Church. Served as Deacon and Elder.
Member of the Odd Fellows and filled every office.
Married Mary E. Baily, Crawford Co, 1861. Parents were Hiram H. Bailey and Martha H. Bailey; lived in KY and AR.
