Individual Details

Milton John Tompkins West

(1 Aug 1831 - 1913)

Married (1) Martha L. Craig who died 1860 and is buried in Flat Rock Cemetery. Children found in the Cemetery include: Isadon, son, born and died 23 Jul 1858; Charles Constatin West, b. 6 Jan 1860, d. 6 Sep 1879; Martha William West, b. 27 Sep 1867, d. 18 Jan 1868.

Married (2) Mary Hall, b. 1830, d. 1906; buried Morrison Cemetery next to her husband.
Their daughter Mary Ann "Mollie" West Miller Carpenter is in this cemetery; b. 11 Jan 1870, d. 7 Dec 1962. Her first husband Robert Edwin Miller is here as well; 1869-1897, and her second husband Frank Carpenter; 1882-1956.

In 1860, "John" is listed in the census with Martha, who was obviously still alive at the time of the census. She was age 26, born in Illinois. I actually think they were living with his mother and all his siblings, but as eldest male he was considered the head of the household. They apparently had a baby, Charles, age 5 months. [The use of his name as John may explain some of the confusing references I've seen to a John West after the death of the elder John.]
