Charity ADAMSON

(1778 - 1828)

The Ken Bowen webpage states that she married John Huff and remained in North Carolina, and this seems the most likely.
This appears to be another instance of confusion among the daughters of the Adamson brothers in Tennessee because another database had her married to Benjamin Wilson.

I am also not sure that Charity's husband John has been placed correctly as a son of Ann Pike, though it is likely his father was a Daniel Hough.

There is a marriage listed in the Tennessee State Marriages - names are indexed wrong much of the time. This is a Benj. Wilson to "Charlotte" Adamson, 6 Aug 1818. Charity would have been about age 40 - I doubt this would be her marriage. It's also possible she was not this age - I've found no basis for the order, nor births of the children of Jesse Adamson.

The Deep River MM records [Guilford Co NC] contain several entries for Hough. From these it can be determined that a Daniel and Elizabeth Huff were received by request in 1782, along with children John, Daniel, Jess, Mary, Jemima, Martha, Anne & Keziah. A William and Mary Hough were also received by request - Mary had to get her certificate from Buckingham MM in Pa. William and Mary Hough had children, Israel, John, Jonathan, Sarah, Charlotte & Mary. Note that both Daniel and William's families contained a John. Neither Daniel nor William had a wife named Ann - to be Ann Pike - of course either could have married more than once.
Then there is this:
1793, 10, 7. John (Huff) of Muddy Creek, dismissed for marrying out of unity.
1793, 10, 7. Charity (Huff) (formerly "Adams") dismissed for marrying out of unity.
The location of Muddy Creek may indicate that this John was the son of the above Daniel and not William, because a Jesse Hough of Muddy Creek was also dismissed for marrying out of unity in 1786 and William is not noted to have had a son named Jesse.

A John Huff also married, 11 Jun 1829, Stokes Co NC to Martha Hicks. The 1830 census indicated he had a much younger wife. But there was also a John Huff Jr with spouse and children in the 1830 census, Stokes, Co.
