Edward Curd

( - )

CURD Family GenForum. Jeff Whittaker 9 May 2000
Said by some to have married Ann Price, daughter of Daniel Price and Mary, and a sister to Elizabeth Price who married Edward's brother John. I have no indication that Daniel & Mary Price had a daughter Ann but then she could have been deceased before Daniel wrote his will or omitted from the will for some reason. However her birth year and place of birth is COMPLETELY wrong to be their daughter

I t is also somewhat curious that Edward Curd is not present in a series of receipts dated in 1749, but recorded 5 Jun 1769 in the Henrico Deeds. His brothers John and Richard, and sisters Elizabeth and both Marys signed receipts that they had received their full share of their father's estate. Presumably since Edward and his mother were Executors they received these receipts.

Edward did inherit the home place near Richmond. His father's will left the home plantation and dwelling in Henrico to wife Elizabeth during her life. Son, Edward, to have half during Elizabeth's life and at her death the whole of said Henrico estate. He was also given all lands in Goochland Co excepting 100 acres to granddaughter Jane McBride. Edward patented 294 acres on the Chickahominy River, 20 Mar 1745. After his father's death he was called Edward Senior in Henrico Co records. He was commissioned captain of militia 1 Oct 1743.

The following deeds may refer to this Edward - some say he is believed to have died by 1762, so they could be those of his son of the same name:

Henrico DB 1750-1774
p.754 1 Oct 1762 Daniel Price & James Cocke to Edward Curd, all of Henrico Co. 200 acres on Meeting House Spring, adj. Price, Cocke, Curd, Harrod, & Watkins. Signed: Daniel Price, James Cocke. Mary, wife of James Cocke relinquished dower. Wit: William Smith, John Harwood Junr. Rec. 1 Nov 1762.

p.792 6 Jun 1763 James Cocke Sr to James Cocke Jr for securing payments of money owed to John Pleasants by James Cocke Sr. and for love and affection. Three tracts of 863. Two of 485 on Chickahominy Swamp adj. Edward Watkins and Edward Curd & Deep Run. One of 378 acres adj Daniel Price, James Cocke Sr, John Robertson, & John Harwood. 138-17-10 paid by James Cocke Jr to discharge said mortage. Release by John Pleasants. Signed: James Cocke. Wit: Daniel Price, Jr. Daniel Harwood, Joseph Price,. Rec. 6 Jun 1763

This deed shows an Edward with a wife named Mary and is likely that of his son Edward who married Mary Morris:
Henrico DB 1767-1774
p.531 4 Apr 1774 Charles Lewis & Susanna his wife, and Edward Curd and Mary his wife, to John Edwards, all of Henrico Co for 22£, 14 and 3/4 acres on the road leading from the Curd's to Richmond; being part of the tract said Lewis and Curd live on.
Wit: Daniel Price, John Harwood Jr, David White
Signed: Charles Lew, Edward Curd. [no signatures nor relinquishment of dower for wives]
Rec. 1st Mon Apr 1774
