Seems a bit odd to me that there would be sons named Thomas Lewis and Lewis Thomas - I suspect one of the names to be in error. The birth record states the child born in 1854 was Lewis Thomas Gabbard.

Luther and Haley said to be children of Sula Raines. There was also a gap of 7 years between Elijah and Mahala - that would also suggest the death of a wife and remarriage. Sula was with Lewis in 1900. Mahaly and Hailey must be the same daughter.

Mike Carr 17 Jan 2002 Gives birthdate of 28 Apr 1852.
It's odd that there would be a Lewis Thomas and then a son Lewis , but they appear together in two census records. I believe they were Thomas AND Lewis - yet the birth record of the child born in1854 was Lewis Thomas Gabbard.
