The 1900 Census gives Elijah's birth as March 1893 - he was age 7.

The previous child was Viley, born 1886 - some 7 or 8 years later. It is possible that during this gap, the first wife Sarah died, and Lewis Gabbard married Sula. However, in 1910, Elijah was said to be age 20, or born 1890 - which might indicate he was Sarah's son.
