William Goolsby

(Abt 1805 - )

Possibly the same man:
A William Goolsby entered land 2 Jan 1826, 100 acres by survey 23 Jul 1827 in Jackson Co on Hutchy Creek. Bounded by Jacob Younts north boundary of his 640 acres. Includes his improvement. Patent issued 11 Sep 1828 by the Governor, Sam Houston.

1830 Census. Jackson Co, TN
William Goolsby, age 30-40 (too old)

1840 Census. Jackson Co, TN,
Wm Goolsby, 1m under 5, 1m 20-30 (too young). 1f under 5, 1f 20-30.

William married Nancy Parker Ridge 23 Apr 1846 in White Co TN. I suspect he had an earlier marriage.

Probably this man:
1850 Census. White, TN, Hh 1365
William Goolsby, 45
Nancy, 30
Sarah, 11
Isaac, 8 (Isaac & Sarah would have been born to an earlier wife)
Jane, 4

1860 Census. Putnam, TN, Hh 825
Wm Goolesby, 57, Miller
Nancy, 44
Jane, 13
John, 10
Elizabeth, 6

1870 Census. White Co, TN, Hh 5
William Goolsby, 63, b. TN
Prudence, 22
John, 18
Elizabeth, 13

This entry makes no sense - it is possible William married again, but the daughters listed do not agree with names previously in the family:
1880 Census. White Co, TN, Hh 208
William Goolsby, 72, chair maker, b. TN
Jennie, 56, wife
Susan, 27, dau
Martha, 23, dau
Laura J., 12, step-dau
Mary E., 8, step-dau
William A., 6, step-son
Luvena, 5, step-dau
Alonza, 1, step-son

This could be his daughter Elizabeth, age 6 in 1860:
Tennessee Death Certificate #10040
