C. W. Trumbo was appointed administrator for the estate of Claborne Jones, dec'd of Linn Co, MO on 12 Feb 1886. Claborne Jones had died intestate on 19 Jan 1886, leaving as his heirs, Jane E. Ross, Sarah F. Adamson, and Mollie M. Jones, all living in Linn Co. (This would seem to indicate that five of the children of Claborn had died before he did.) Securites were provided by Pon Adamson (husband of Sarah), John Ross (husband of Jane), and A. L. Brown (Alonzo, son of Henry T. Brown, Jr. and nephew of Thomas & Thurza (Jones) Brown)
Inventory was taken on 12 Feb 1886 and no personal property belonged to the estate. Real estate included two tracts of land:
128 acres, the East side of the SW 1/4, Section 20, Township 59, Range 20
80 acres, the West 1/2 of th SE 1/4, Section 20, Township 59, Range 20
Petition to sell the property - claims again the estate believed to amount to $1500, of which $641 was allowed by the Court. No debts due to the deceased.
One of bills from Binkley, dry goods, etc. was to Claibe Jones, deceased. On the 8th of January just before he died, he had bought coffee, sugar and peaches. On the the 20th, the day after he died, the following clothes were bought - Suit - $16, Shirt $1.25, Collar, .15 - Total of $17.40 - no doubt his burial garments. Bill for the years 1883-1885 were for various women's supplies - thread, veiling, hats, gloves, calico.
Thomas Kelle of Linneus presented his bill for One Coffin, $25. It was paid 17 May 1886.
Pom Adamson bailed the estate for $200. He had stabled a horse, $75; built a wire fence, $15; taken care of the stock in 1884 and 1885, $40; repaired the fence and furnished provisions during sickness, $30; and built the stable and corn crib, $40. His bill was allowed by the court.
A number of bills were presented to the estate for small amounts.
Appraisers, F. W. Powers and Geo. W. Stephens viewed the 80 acre tract, and deemed it was worth $16 per acre, $1408. It was sold to Alonzo L. Brown for $808 - he assumed the mortgage of $600 and paid it off in cash with another $8, and then executed note to the C. W. Trumbo for the remaining $200.
There were tax receipts for both pieces of property. On 21 Feb 1887, Trumbo was still paying tax on the 128 acres. There is no disposition of this property in the file.
13 Feb 1888 was the date of the final settlement. Ads had been placed in the Linneus Bulletin on Jan 12, 19, 26 and Feb 2. After paying additional small bills, the estate had $28.61. Jane E. Ross, Mary Ann Jones, and Sarah F. & Pon Adamson (together) were each paid $9.53.
