Pina Edith Mills, born Aug 12, 1899 joined our Lord, Oct 2, 1994 at age 95. Born in Uniontown, Ark. as eldest of 12 children to Wash and Oley Haggard, who preceded her in death. [she was 2nd oldest]
She is survived by a daughter Ione Stauss of Tahlequah and a son, Joe Mills of Tulsa; five brothers, Garth Haggard of Tulsa, Jack Haggard of Tulsa, George Haggard of Van Buren, Ark., and Harold Haggard of Van Buren (this was only 4 brothers); two sisters, Pearl Bray of Van Buren, and Inex Ewing of Levelland, Texas; six grandchildren, Foix Stauss II of Tahlequah, Karen Stauss of Louisville, KY, Trcia Stauss Brown of Tahlequah, BenLon Stauss of Tahlequah, Dr. Tim Mills of Tulsa and Amy Mills Savage of Midland, TX; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great- granchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ben; her son-in-law, Foix Stauss; and grandson Benjamin Mills.
She was a member of the Christian Church since baptism in Lackey Creek between Uniontown, AR and Short, Indian Territory, as a child. Schooling at Uniontown and obtained her teaching certificate and taught and went to school to obtain her college degree at Northeastern State Univ in 1937.
She was married to Benjamin F. Mills of Uniontown, AR, on Christmas Day, Dec 25, 1916. Daughter Ione was born in Uniontown, Apr 5, 1918 and son Joe Franklin was born in Bristow on May 18, 1939.
She was a lifetime teacher at places such as Gore, Tahlequah, Gypsy, the Betty Raumbaugh School in Tulsa, East Central Districk in East Tulsa county, and retired as a teacher in the Tulsa Public Schools.
In Tulsa she served various committees at Memorial Christian Church and as a soloist in the choir. She later became a member at First Christian Church.
Early on as a teacher, she was a girls' basketball coach and loved following Tulsa University basketball and football. She was an avid baseball fan and never missed a sporting event where her children and grandchildren were involved, if she could get to the park.
Services are scheduled for today at First Christian Church, Tulsa.
