PERRYVILLE - Virginia "Gina" Wood, age 75 of Perryville, Ark. passed away May 11, 2013. She was born Oct. 12, 1937, in Van Buren, Ark., a daughter of Raymond and Louise Bowlin Wood. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Gina retired after 25 years as a laboratory animal technologist at the National Center for Toxicological Research in Pine Bluff, Ark. She was also a former professional women's basketball player for several years playing for Hazel Walker's Arkansas Travelers.
Survivors include, best friend and companion of 42 years, Carolyn Butler of Perryville; a niece, Laura (Chris) Hatridge of Pasadena, Texas; four nephews, Jay Neal (Ashley) of Plano, Texas, Keith (Beth) Neal of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mark Wood of McKinney, Texas and Jeff Wood of Houston, Texas. Also, extended family of friends, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins and her beloved Brittany Spaniel, Lucy. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jerry Neal and a brother, Roger Wood.
Celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Harris Chapel, with private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
