Thomas Jefferson Wynn

(16 Nov 1829 - 6 Jan 1896)

About Thomas Jefferson Wynn's military service, Emma Jane was the daugh t er of Thomas' boyhood friend and army comrade (John Sharon). From J o hn Sharon's obit, I find that John served in the 185th Ohio Col. Infan t ry. I have yet to write for their military/pension records, but plan t o d o so soon (I have been planing this for over a year, so whatever soo n m eans). I do know that the 185th was a garrison unit. I received most o f m y information from my Great-Uncle, Charles Wynn Cragg (son of Lena F ay W ynn and Floyd Carl Cragg. I believe hereceived most of his informat ion f rom a cousin, Betty Wynn McGehee. From what I understand, Betty ha s be en researching this family for years. I have not made contact with B et ty, as I understand her health is poor. I have Lena's death certifica t e, and other obits and will be happy to send you copies. I donot have a w e b site up for this side of the family line, put plan to put oneu p s oon. I also have some pictures and would be happy to scan them and s en d you a copy (I can not identify everyone in them). My information li s ts JaneMcQuiston Fulton as a widow. She was born on 26 Dec 1794 in PA a n d died 02 May 1849 in Guernsey Co., OH. Thomas was born in 1796 in Fay e tte Co., PA married 07 Feb 1822 in Westmoreland Co., PA and died about 1 8 21 in Fayette Co., PA. I have not written for his estate records as of y e t. Also, I have not checked my information with your information and I c a n not prove this is correct at this time. I can only assume that Thoma s a nd Jane eloped, as they picked Westmoreland Co., to be married in, a nd f or a number of years it seems that everyone eloped to Westmoreland C o. I h ave several pages (over 100) of T. B. Deem's book on the Wynne bu t jus t recently made the connection to Isaac Wynn (through another web s ite ). I also just made the connection on the Gist side, seems all I re al ly need to do was to find you! The Guernsey Co., OH marriage record f o r Thomas J. Wynn and Violet Gist states: I Thomas J. Wynn make solemum o a th that I am unmarried amn of the lawful age of 2X and that Violet Mc. G i st is over 18 years of xx and not XXXXXX of kin that first cousin. Axx S h e resides in this county. Thomas J. XXXXXXX ( I will send you a copy - n e ed your address) I have the same date of death for Thomas Jefferson Wy n n as youdo, but no obit. I live in Riley, Kansas and should be able t o f ill these gaps, either with information I can gather here or by taki ng a t rip to Allen County. Thomas J. Wynn and Violet Gist also had 2 da ughte rs, Emily & Sadie that died prior to Harrison (from Harrison 's o bit). It is early in the morning, and if this message is choppy, I a m t ruely sorry. I am trying to get this off before I hit the shower. Ob it f or Violet Wynn: (The Miami Republican,Paola, Kansas, October 15, 19 09) M rs. Wynn Dead. Mrs. Violet M. Wynn died Monday evening, Oct 11, at t he h ome of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. D. Voglesong at Iola, Kas. She was married there in 1854 to Th om as J. Wynn in the early 70s they located in this county, on a f a rm south ofPaola, where they lived until Mr. Wynn's death about twelve y e ars ago. Soon after her husband's death Mrs. Wynn and son George r e moved to a farm near Lone Elm and about six years ago she removed to I o la. Mrs. Wynn was a member of the Methodist church since girlhood, liv e d a devoted Christian life and spoke only good of people. She managed h e r business affairs with rare capacity and before her death provided fo r a d ivision of her property among her children, so that it will not be n ec essary to have an administrator.
