Harrison Elsworth Wynn

Alias: Bert /Wynn/ Harrison Elsworth Wynn (Obit) (Publication Unk n own) Harrison Elsworth, son of Thomas and Violet Gist Wynn, was born n e ar Cambridge, Gurnsey County, Ohio May 30, 1862 and passed away at Mur r ay Memorial hospital, Dodge City, at 5:15 A. M. July 28, 1941 aged 79 y e ars 1 month and 28 days. At the age of six years he moved with his par e nts to Miami County, Kansas near Paola. Here he grew to manhood. On th e s econd day of February, 1886 he was united in marriage to Emma Jane S ha ron, daughter of his father’s boyhood friend and army comrade. For fi f ty-one years they enjoyed life together until the death of Mrs. Wynn i n 1 937. To them were born six children. The youngcouple established the ir f irst home on a farm near Paola. From there they moved to Linn count y a nd later to Allen county. In 1908 the Wynn family moved to Paw ne e county, locating near Garfield. In 1916 they came to Copeland w h ich remained the family home until the death of Mrs. Wynn. The decease d i s survived by five children: Frank F of Inglewood, California, John T . o f Copeland, Lena Fay Cragg or Manhattan, Kansas, Elizabeth Sharon Mc Do well of Garfield and Helen Gould Beuttel of Wichita. Other survivors a r e three sisters Mrs. Maggie Vogelsong and Mrs Mollie Hudleson both of E l dorado, Mrs Minnie Tracy of Wichita; two brothers, John A of Iola and G e orge H. of Eldorado; fifteen grandchildren and one great grand d a ughter. Preceding him in death were his wife, his daughter Mary Violet w h o passed away ag Garfield at the age of twenty-one years, two si s ters Emily and Sadie and two grand-children. He was affectionately kno w n as "Grand-dad Wynn", a man who numbered his friends by his acq u aintances. He was a member of the Methodist church and a consistent at t endant at its services as long as health permitted. He was ever willin g t o accept life as it came to him. For the last four and a half months o f h is life he was bet-fast, but he maintained his cheerfulness and grea t g ood humor until the end. Of his passing, it has been fittingly s a id, "If not now, yet it will come.If it will come it may as well be no w " Mrs. Beuttel's Father Dies (Most likely a Wichita, Kansas Publicatio n ) H. E. Winn, 79, prominent Copeland, Kas. Rancher and father of Mrs. H e rman W. Beuttel, 1142 North Broadway, died Monday in a Dodge City hosp i tal as the result of a stroke suffered two months ago at El Dorado. Mr s . Beuttel and her son, Bill, were at the bedside when death came to th e p ioneer Kansan at 5 a.m. Monday. They went to Dodge City Sunday morni ng u pon receiving word of Mr. Winn's critical condition. Born in Ohio, M r. W inn had lived in Kansas 70 years. He had made his home in Allen Cou nty , at Garfield and Copeland, where he held large ranch and farming ac re ages. Other survivors were two daughters, Mrs W. W. McDowell, Garfiel d a nd Mrs. FloydCraig, Manhattan; two sons Frank, Los Angeles, and John T . , Copeland: three sisters, Mrs. Hohn Tracy, 1041 South Topeka; Mrs. Jo h n Huddleston and Mrs. Maggie Vogelsong both of El Dorado; and two brot h ers George, El Dorado, and Don, Allen County. Funeral services were sc h eduled tentatively for Wednesday at Copeland, with interment to be mad e i n the family cemetery lot at Garfield.
