Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, Iowa, December 30, 2005, Page c8: Platteville, Wis. --Dorothy J. Gard, 83, of Platteville, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Martin Page Funeral Home, Platteville, with Pastor Jeff Nettles officiating. Burial will be in Kirkpatrick Cemetery, rural Rewey. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. She was born on June 20, 1922, in Rewey, youngest of eight children born to Hiram and Nellie (Gunsalis) Carpenter. She was married to Donald W. Gard on July 13, 1943, at his parents' home in Platteville. She was a graduate of Platteville State Teachers College. They lived and worked in the Platteville area all of their lives. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, playing bingo and being with her family and friends. Surviving are her children, Donna Kennedy, of Platteville, Connie (Jack) Adams, of Milton, Karen (Chuck) McIntyre, of Sun Prairie, Sue (Craig) Nabbefeld, of Lone Rock, Cindy (Chris) Cummins, of Horicon, and John (Dawn) Gard and Lori (Eric Mellson) Bartels, both of Platteville; a brother-in-law, Charles Witzig, of Platteville; and 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Gard; a grandson, Dennis Kopp; a son-in-law, Bruce Koehn; her parents; and her brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, a Dorothy J. Gard Memorial Fund has been established with proceeds going to Homeward Bound, Lancaster.
