Newton Cloud Gillham was born 29 November 1873 in Clinton County, Missouri. Newton never married, and was a lawyer in Kansas City, Missouri for many years. He took care of his mother until her death in 1931. Newton died on 12 March 1934, when an automobile struck him in front of his home while he waited on a streetcar. Newton is buried in Palestine Cemetery, Jackson County, Missouri.

The coroner's Inquest into the death of Newton C. Gillham, 2746 Brooklyn avenue, who was injured fatally by a motor car at Twenty-eighth street and Brooklyn avenue, will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday. Mr. Gillham was on his way to the First Church of Christ when he was struck by a car driven by Earl Cox, 2716 Wabash avenue. Mr. Gillham was 60 years old and was one of the original supporters of Woodrow Wilson's first candidacy for President.
