Stella Gillham was born 31 January 1869 in Sangamon County, Illinois. She married 27 December 1893 to Luther Yeager Kerr in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. They lived in Greenville, Washington County, Mississippi for several years while he worked for the government as a civil engineer on the Mississippi River. They later moved to Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee where he continued to work for the government. He died on 22 February 1938 at his home in Memphis.

There were four (4) children born of the marriage.
