George William Apple Sr.

Apple of Fairview, prominent citizen of Collin County where he spent his life, died at 7 a.m. Sunday in Richardson General Hospital after an illness of three weeks. He was born Oct. 24, 1900 in McKinney, the son of Sam W. and Emma Beck Apple. He was a well-known cattle auctioneer, a profession he followed for 50 years and was past chairman of the board of the Texas State Animal Health Commission. He also sold millions of dollars of oil leases for the state of Texas over the years. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of McKinney. On Dec. 22, 1920 in McKinney he married the former Miss Ruby Milligan, who survives. Other survivors include one son, Dr. George W. Apple, Jr. of Plano, four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mattie Alice Dickerson of McKinney, three brothers, Cecil Apple of Ft. Worth, Fred Apple of McKinney, and Walter B. Apple of Richardson. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in Horn-Harris-Crouch chapel with Rev. Jimmy Storey of Dallas officiating. Interment will be in Pecan Grove.
