Samuel Walter Apple

Samuel Walter Apple, 65 years old, well known Dairy operator of McKinney and a resident of this city from many years, died at 8 o'clock Thursday night at his home, 605 West Virginia Street. He had been in poor health for more than two years, but only within the past few days was he considered seriously ill. Funeral services were conducted at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Chapel of the Massie Funeral Home by Dr. Clifford S. Weaver and Dr. R. L. Cowan and interment followed in the Pecan Grove Cemetery. The following McKinney citizens served as pallbearers: Gibson Caldwell, Walter Cockrell, Don O. Davis, Ernest Milligan, Dink Herndon and Percy Barksdale.

Mr. Apple was born at Chestnut Mound, Tenn., Sept. 21, 1876, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Apple, pioneers of Tennessee. He married Miss Emily Beck December 31, 1897, and for many years made his home in McKinney, conducting the well known Apple's Dairy. He started in a modest way and built the business to large proportions. The deceased is survived by his wife; one daughter, Miss Mattie Alice Apple, McKinney; and five sons, Col. George Apple, well known local Auctioneer; Ed and Fred Apple of McKinney; Cecil Apple of Dallas and Walter B. Apple of San Antonio. He also leaves four granddaughters and one grandson and the following brothers and sister: Mrs. L. L. Pittman and Mrs. Avo Hutchins of McKinney; Will Apple and Bell Apple, McKinney; Boss Apple and Roy Apple, Dallas. [A photo of Mr. Apple accompanied the obituary.]
