Southern Illinoisan, Carbondale, Illinois, Saturday, February 24, 1996: VALIER - Ruby Joy Whitlow, 93, formerly of Valier, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 1996, at the residence of her daughter in New Plymouth, Idaho. Mrs. Whitlow was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church of Valier. She was born Dec. 29, 1902, in Tyrone Township to George and Dora (Moyers) Kirkpatrick. She married John M. Whitlow on Dec. 24, 1919, in Valier. He preceded her in death in June 1961. She was also preceded in death by her parents, seven children, two brothers, five sisters and two great grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Venita Shockley and husband, Joe, of New Plymouth, Idaho; one sister, Claudney Stevens and husband, Claude, of Glendale, Ariz.; one brother, Marion Kirkpatrick and wife, Lucille, of Peoria, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Helen Kirkpatrick of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters-in-law, Ruth Whitlow of Kankakee, Ruby L. Whitlow of Valier and Audrey Ramsey of Elgin; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 1996, in the First Baptist Church, Valier, with the Rev. Harl Ray Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery, Whittington. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 25, 1996, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brayfield Funeral Home, Sesser, and from 9 a.m. until the services time Monday at the church.
