Alfred Riley Kirkpatrick

Alfred Riley Kirkpatrick (AKA Alford Riley), enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861, as a private in the 7th Arkansas Infantry; promoted to sergeant; he was captured by Union forces under General Sherman near Atlanta, GA on 22 July 1864; he was later paroled from Camp Chase, OH; he married /1 on 6 Dec 1868 to Viola Kidwell of Oregon Co., MO; he married /2 about 1887 to Mary E. Huddleston of Alton, MO; it is believed he had no children by either wife.

On the 1880 U. S. Census of Alton, Oregon Co., Missouri, Alfred and his wife Viola are hotel keepers. Viola's brothers William C. Kidwell and Joseph Kidwell are living with them. They have 4 men boarders in the household.

On the 1900 U.S. Census of Alton, Piney Township, Oregon Co., Missouri, Alfred and his wife Mary E. are farmers. They have two servants living with them, Modena C. Winford born July 1884 in Missouri and James Martin, born May 1866 in Kentucky. No children are noted of the marriage.
