Elizabeth Louisa Kirkpatrick

(8 Feb 1808 - 1889)

Elizabeth Louisa Kirkpatrick was born in Jackson Co., GA, 8 Feb 1808. She married on 1 October 1829 in Bond Co., Illinois, Enoch Enloe, who was the son of Asahel Enloe and grandson of Isaac Enloe, Sr., who died in York Co., SC. Isaac Enloe served in the American Revolution. Enoch was born in South Carolina on 4 Feb 1808. He had been in Wisconsin (then Michigan Territory) in 1827 but returned to Illinois. in 1834 Enoch and Louisa returned to Iowa County, Wisconsin.

Enoch served with a number of Kirkpatrick kinsmen in the Black Hawk War in 1832. His unit was Captain James Craig's company of Illinois mounted volunteers, Galena, attached to Colonel Henry Dodge's regiment. Enloe was a private. In 1852 and again in 1855 he applied for bounty land based on this service. He was then living in Iowa County, Wisconsin, though the applications are dated at Grant County.

Enloe was a farmer and lived near Washburn. He was a Methodist, a Republican and a member of the I.O.O.F*. He served as a member of the town board several times and held other local offices including that of school board member. He bought 120 acres of land when he first settled in Iowa County, sold that parcel and bought 160 acres where he built the home he and Louisa spent their declining years developing. He added 300 acres to the base land. Louisa died in 1889, and Enoch died in Mifflin, 1 April 1884. Both are buried in the Kirkpatrick Cemetery near Rewey, Wisconsin.
