Elizabeth Mary Shankland was the 8th child of her parents.

Mrs. Elizabeth Mary Briggs, age 82 years, died at her home, 411 West Adams, Wednesday night at 6:45 o'clock, from old age. Mrs. Briggs was born in Kentucky. She moved to Barton County, Mo., in 1881 and to Pittsburg nineteen years ago. Mrs. Briggs is survived by four sons and three daughters. The sons are W. H. Briggs, 502 South Joplin; P. Orville Briggs, 413 West Adams; A. L. Briggs, Iantha, Mo.; and J. N. Briggs, Fort Scott. The daughters are Mrs. H. J. Widner, residing six miles southeast of Pittsburg; Mrs. J. E. Strosnider, 420 West Park; and Mrs. J. O. Glaser, 409 West Adams. Mrs. Briggs is survived by two brothers in Illinois, 43 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services will be held from the home on West Adams Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dean G. W.Trout of the Normal will conduct the services. Interment will be in Mt. Olive cemetery.
