The daughter of a well-to-do Chicago physician, Ruth was the wife of Gordon Mann, Sr. and the mother of actress Helen Mann (see Find a Grave’s famous listings section) and attorney Gordon Mann, Jr. Ruth loved nothing better than entertaining a large group of friends, unless it was time spent alone with her family. A true mistress of haute couture, she always appeared impeccably dressed, and she passed this trait on to her children. Even into her 90s, she never appeared in public without her hair, makeup and nails being meticulously done. Although grief-stricken at the loss of her daughter in 1947 and husband in 1949, Ruth continued to spend time with her many friends until her passing in 1989. Her son eulogized her as being “the perfect example of how a lady should look and behave.”
