Kirkpatrick, 77, of 6033 Bryan, founder of the first band at Texas Christian University when the school was located in Waco, died at his home Thursday after a long illness. Kirkpatrick was born in Gainesville and spent his youth in Commerce. He received his degree in music from East Texas Normal College, now East Texas State College, and did post-graduate work at the Bush Conservatory in Chicago, Ill. After teaching at Baylor University, Kirkpatrick joined the TCU faculty for a few years. For the past 38 years Kirkpatrick was a resident of Dallas. He entered the printing business here in 1932 and prior to his retirement was manager of the Crescent Card Company. Survivors are his wife; a son, Charles C. Kirkpatrick of Dallas; a brother, Dr. B. A. Kirkpatrick of Taylor, Williamson County, and a sister, Mrs. Gordon Lee Mann of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Weiland-Merritt Funeral Chapel, 2909 Live Oak, with Dr. H. Kerr Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Abe Carroll, Jr., M. B. Thompson, Dr. Lawrence B. Sheldon, Arthur F. Crone, Marshall K. Lighfoot Jr. and Dr. Roy Kirkpatrick.
