Daniel Hunt a prominent citizen of Jonesville, Surry Co., NC was a Rev. War soldier in NC, enlisting as a private and promoted to Lt. under Captain John Johnson in Col. Francis Locke's NC Regiment. He applied for a Rev. War pension in 1832 in which he described his service and testified that after his father had been taken prisoner, and released, in 1781, he was excused from further service in order to return home and take care of his father. He apparently continued affiliation with the NC militia because later in life he was called Col. Hunt, as was his father. Bond for his first marriage was signed by Joseph Lynch. After the Rev. War Daniel Hunt is said to have moved to Jonesville, "then the largest town west of Raleigh, and the seat of that famous old school, the Jonesville Academy, long and ably presided over by Professor William Van Eaton, who married Judith, dau. of DAniel Hunt and his wife Nancy Jones." it is said in a 14 June 1930 DAR Memorial Ceremony hjonoring the memory of Rev. soldier Daniel Hunt of Jonesville. According to the same document, D aniel was a merchant and large landowner in Jonesville and the Valley of the Yadkin, and had a place of business "opposite the old hotel which stands on the corner of the Main Street in Jonesville and was a member of the NC House of Commons 1803-1805.
