Individual Details
Louis Hamilton SCOTT
(18 Jul 1870 - 18 Nov 1928)
[young.FTW]
Little is known of his life in Ontario Canada, he was trained as a blacksmith and also as an undertaker and had a shop in Hamilton Ontario.
After the birth of Stanley in 1901 the family came our west to San Francisco by train and Louis established a blacksmith shop in San Peblo where they lived.
When the Great San Francisco struck in 1906 Louis went to the city and because of the shortage of undertakers and a large amount of bodies took up his other profession that of undertaker and worked according to the records for over a week before the military and civil authorities finally let him go home.
Only one story of Louis's adventure in the devastation ever survived and that was told to me by my Dad Stanley....The story goes, that Louis was working preparing bodies for interment when a squad of National Guard brought some prisoners who they captured looting bodies and homes. The squad put the looters against the wall just across from Louis and executed them by firing squad and left them laying there for Louis to clean up.
Louis bought some land in Ord Bend and the family moved up in 1910 where I found them listed as living in a construction camp building the Glenn Colusa Cannel. Louis was the blacksmith of the camp and his wife Hattie and the daughters worked in the camp kitchen.
Louis then built his house and started ranching where the old Konnen place is now. He would later buy the Ord Store and the family lived in the house behind it. And as told by several old timers he would sit on the bench in the front visiting with all his friends that came while Hattie and the girls ran the store.
It should also be noted that he helped his son Stanley get started with his own place, helping build the barn and house in 1921 which still stand today and planted all the original trees. FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page
