Death
Agnes Marion Charette passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of Wednesday, March 6, 2019 in Massena NY at the Highland Nursing Home, her home for the past 3 years. So typical of Agnes, the day before her passing, Agnes was laughing and joking with her Highland Family and enjoying her meals.
Agnes was pre-deceased by her husband of 42 years, Joseph Charette, her son Chris Durant and her brothers and sisters (Norman LaComb, Donald Robideau, Agatha Robideau Carson and June Robideau Sumpter). Agnes (and her twin, Agatha) were born at their home on Beach Street to Horace and Carrie Robideau in Massena, NY.
Agnes would tell you that family was the most important part of her life. Agnes' childhood was filled with family and friend activities such as swimming, baseball and annual vacations to Chateaugay Lake. Agnes and Arthur Durant married in 1949. They lived on Beach Street close to Agnes's parents until they built their home on East Hatfield Street. Here they raised 'my boys' - Daniel (Cheryl), Patrick (Laurette Vogel) and Chris (Lynn). She loved being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Agnes moved to Rochester in 1973 where she met and married Joseph Charette. In 1985 she and Joe moved back to the North Country to their 'camp' on the Racquette River in South Colton. At the time, her brother and father were within shouting distance across the river.
Agnes' faith was important to her. Agnes and Joe became congregants at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colton. Agnes found the distance between South Colton and 'my boys' difficult and often would say she missed 'my family'. She traveled to Texas or Rochester as often as she could to visit and always made special events priority. Agnes and Joe had fun-loving personalities and hosted many cookouts and campfires for family and friends who all felt welcomed and loved. Agnes was the life of the party at these!
On a quieter side, Agnes loved watching the hummingbirds and bluebirds in her yard and listening to music, especially the song, Wind Beneath My Wings. Family will always think of her when hearing this song and will always miss her.
Family and friends will gather this summer for burial at St. Patrick Cemetery in Colton, NY at a time to be announced.
