Death

Arthur Edward Durant, 85, died suddenly in Ocala, Florida on October 22nd 2013. Arthur was born in Ellisburg, New York on May 28, 1928. Arthur grew up in the "north country". His teenage years were spent at his Uncle Guy and Aunt Lucy Durant's farm. At 16 Arthur had his first job at the Coca Cola Co. After driving truck for Coca Cola, Art came to work in the pot rooms at Alcoa Aluminum, eventually becoming foreman. In 1950 Arthur married Agnes Robideau of Massena. They had three boys, Daniel, Patrick and Chris. Art built his family a home on East Hatfield Street and they lived there many happy years. In 1974 Arthur married Romayne Mayer also from Massena. Romayne's children Kevin and Valerie called him Art; he was Dad. Romayne died suddenly in 1992. Art lived in Massena until 2007 when he moved to Rochester, NY to be closer to family. In 2009 he moved with his family to Ocala, Florida, where he enjoyed 4 1/2 years at Marion Woods Retirement Community. For nearly forty years Arthur was a survivor of laryngeal cancer. Arthur liked country music, motorcycles, a beer in his younger days, snowmobiling in the winter, barbecuing in the summer, his cats and feeding the many birds that came to his feeders. He was very much loved and will be missed by all including his friends at Marion Woods. In addition to his children Daniel (Cheryl), Patrick, Chris (Lynn), Kevin Mayer (Denise) and Valerie Bergren (Chris), Arthur is survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and his brother-in-law and friend, Ted Musante, of Massena. Plans are for interment this summer at Calvary Cemetery in Massena.
