WILLIAM BRADFORD RYDER
(6 Mar 1866 - 19 Jul 1948)
Known as "Bill Buckskin," he "lived on Kelly Road four miles back from the highway at Coles Island. He farmed and worked in the lumber woods, did a lot of trapping (fur animals), and hunted deer and moose to provide meat for his large family. He always kept horses, his only means of transportation, and did quite a lot of horse trading (some with Charlie Ryder)."
Cyrena's brother, Arthur Perry and his son Elmer lived with William and Cyrena "quite a few years until Elmer got married. Cyrena cooked a 98 lb bag of flour each week when the family was all at home."
In June 1928 the family moved out of Kelly Road to Coles Island "to where Manford and Irene now live."
William's obituary describes him as "a life long resident from Coles Island," who "has many friends both in his own community and elsewhere." The obituary of his wife Cyrena reports, "she had been about the house as usual during the day and death came suddenly that night."
