ALLEN WILLIAM COREY
(7 Sep 1876 - 6 Jan 1933)
Allen is not found in census returns for Temperance Vale before 1901. However, in that year, he was farming in that area, and Gardner Corey, aged 77, was living with him, identified as father to Allen. [NBSouthampton census 1901.] He farmed in Temperance Vale. Many of his descendants remain in that area, and some have migrated to the United States.
The dates of birth for the children of Allen and Maud illustrate the difficulties in determining correct dates. David Corey indicates that "Wiliam Allen and Maud Laura did not record the births of the children until around 1918, when they went to Fredericton on the train. But some mistakes were made in the recording which were later corrected. Clifford's birth, for instance, was first recorded as 1912, but later changed to 1913."
Fred Bartlett writes, "Allen and Maude lived in the Gardner Corey house in Temperance Vale. He farmed and managed the United Farmer;s Store at Culleton for some time. He was a Sunday School Superintendant for the United Baptist Church for many years." [Corey Book]
